Orthodontic Treatment for a Patient with Class II Malocclusion, an Impacted Maxillary Lateral Incisor Due to Compound Odontoma Using Microimplant: A Case Report
Oh Byung-Cheol

Abstract
Odontoma is a common odontogenic tumor in the oral cavity. Most odontomas are asymptomatic and can obstruct tooth eruption. A 13-year-old male visited the orthodontic clinic due to delayed eruption of the maxillary lateral incisor. The eruption path of the impacted tooth was blocked by a compound odontoma. He also had skeletal and dental Class II malocclusion, midline deviation and lip protrusion. The compound odontoma was surgically removed and a traction wire was bonded on the impacted incisor. Light continuous force was applied to tract the impacted tooth using a lever spring attached to a Nance holding arch. After successful traction of the lateral incisor, the maxillary dentition was totally distalized using micro-implants to correct the molar relationship and midline deviation. At the end of the treatment, his occlusion and smile esthetics were improved.
